top-news

Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut's foray into politics as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Himachal Pradesh's Mandi constituency for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections took a tumultuous turn following a controversial post by Congress leader Suprita Shrinate on Instagram. The post, which included an objectionable comment regarding Ranaut's candidacy, sparked a heated political debate and drew condemnation from various quarters.

In response to Shrinate's post, Kangana Ranaut expressed her dismay, emphasizing that every woman deserves dignity irrespective of their profession or background. Ranaut highlighted her versatile roles in cinema and urged people to rise above prejudices and judgments based on individuals' past roles or characters portrayed on screen.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) swiftly condemned Shrinate's post and called for strict action against her and another Congress leader, HS Ahir, for their derogatory remarks against Kangana Ranaut. NCW Chief Rekha Sharma emphasized the importance of upholding respect and dignity for all women, urging the Election Commission of India (ECI) to take immediate action.

Shrinate, in a subsequent video statement, offered an explanation, attributing the controversial post to unauthorized access to her social media accounts. She clarified that she would never make derogatory comments towards any woman and expressed her concern over the incident.

Gujarat Congress leader Ahir also issued a similar clarification, stating that someone else shared the objectionable post from his social media account without his knowledge.

Meanwhile, BJP leaders Shehzad Poonawalla and Amit Malviya strongly condemned Shrinate's comments and demanded her immediate sacking from the Congress party. They criticized the Congress for allowing such remarks and urged accountability within the party's ranks.

The controversy surrounding Kangana Ranaut's candidature and the subsequent social media post underscores the charged political atmosphere in the lead-up to the Lok Sabha elections. It also highlights the need for responsible and respectful discourse in political and public domains, especially regarding sensitive issues related to women and their dignity.
